Who is Marshmello?
Marshmello (born Christopher Comstock on 19 May 1992) is an American DJ, record producer and songwriter, instantly recognisable for the white, marshmallow-shaped helmet he wears in place of revealing his face. Since emerging in 2015 he has become one of the most commercially successful and most-streamed electronic artists in the world, with billions of streams and a long list of crossover hits.
From Dotcom to Marshmello
Comstock first built a following on SoundCloud around 2010 under the name Dotcom, posting mashups, remixes and singles. He reintroduced himself as Marshmello in early 2015 with a run of remixes, and was quickly championed by established stars including Skrillex and Tiësto, who helped push his tracks to a much wider audience.
Breakthrough and signature hits
His 2016 debut album Joytime and the single "Keep It Mello" established the project, but it was "Alone" that made him a household name. A sequence of vocal collaborations then turned him into a chart fixture:
- "Silence" with Khalid
- "Wolves" with Selena Gomez
- "Friends" with Anne-Marie
- "Happier" with Bastille — his highest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100
- "Leave Before You Love Me" with the Jonas Brothers
The mask and the persona
Marshmello has built his fame around anonymity, almost never appearing in public without the helmet — a cartoon-like identity that has become a brand of its own. He also pushed live music into new territory, headlining a celebrated in-game virtual concert inside Fortnite in 2019 that drew an enormous simultaneous audience and helped pioneer the metaverse concert.
Sound and country crossovers
His music sits at the bright, melodic end of EDM — festival-ready future bass and dance-pop built around big hooks and guest vocalists. In recent years he has leaned increasingly into country, beginning with "Miles on It" alongside Kane Brown.
Recent work
In 2026 he teamed with country-pop star Kelsea Ballerini on the summer single Another Drink, pushing his dance-meets-country crossover firmly into the mainstream.
