Who is Faheem Abdullah?

Faheem Abdullah (born 29 September 1997 in Srinagar, Kashmir) is an Indian singer-songwriter, composer, poet and filmmaker whose music blends heartfelt Urdu and Kashmiri poetry with soulful, contemporary melody. He first wrote under the alias "The Imaginary Poet", a name that captured his devotion to lyricism and storytelling.

Career

He began his musical journey in 2020 with his debut single "Jhelum", named after the river that runs through his home valley. Working closely with his longtime collaborator Arslan Nizami, he built a devoted following in Kashmir before the pair moved to Mumbai to reach a wider audience — a gamble that paid off when his voice broke through to the mainstream.

Breakthrough

His national breakthrough came with the title track of the 2025 film Saiyaara, which went viral and announced him as one of the most distinctive new voices in Indian music. His catalogue also includes "Ishq", "Ae Yaad", "Tera Hona" and "Judayi" — songs marked by their poetic depth and emotional restraint.

Beyond music

A multidisciplinary artist, Faheem is also a filmmaker and the co-founder of Mad in Kashmir, a Srinagar-based production house. In 2026 he composed and performed Hoor for Coke Studio Bharat, alongside Arslan Nizami and Qaiser Nizami.
