Charli xcx (born Charlotte Emma Aitchison on 2 August 1992 in Cambridge, England) is an English singer and songwriter, and one of the most influential pop artists of her generation. Equal parts mainstream hitmaker and avant-garde experimentalist, she has spent over a decade pushing pop's cutting edge while writing some of its biggest hooks.
Early breakthroughs
She came up through London's warehouse rave scene as a teenager and first made her mark as a songwriter and featured voice on era-defining hits — "I Love It" with Icona Pop and "Fancy" with Iggy Azalea — before landing her own smashes "Boom Clap" and "Boys".
Pop innovator
Working closely with producer A.G. Cook and the PC Music collective, Charli became a leading force in hyperpop, releasing boundary-pushing records such as Charli, the lockdown album how i'm feeling now and Crash. Critics and fellow artists have long regarded her as a step ahead of the mainstream she keeps reshaping.
The "Brat" phenomenon
In 2024 her album Brat became a full-blown cultural moment — its lime-green aesthetic and the idea of "brat summer" spilling far beyond music into fashion, internet culture and even politics — and earned her major awards and her widest acclaim yet.
Recent work
In 2026 she released Wink Wink, the cheeky third single from her seventh studio album Music, Fashion, Film — a blend of pop, electropop and rock produced with A.G. Cook.
