Who is Karun?
Karun (Karun Kohli) is an Indian singer, rapper and songwriter known for a deep, distinctive baritone that sounds like few others in the country. He began writing poetry at the age of eleven and earned a law degree, only realising during his third year of college that he wanted to make music his life — a literary, considered background that shows in his writing.
Career
He first drew attention in Delhi's underground rap scene as part of the trio Teesri Duniya in 2017. Co-signed early on by Yo Yo Honey Singh and chosen as a face of Converse India's launch campaign, he developed a singular sound that fuses alt hip-hop, R&B and Indian classical influences — a deliberate alternative to the mainstream desi-hip-hop template.
Key music
Karun built a dedicated following with his 2020 album Granth and its 2022 follow-up Qabool Hai, home to his signature song "Maharani" — a melancholy, melodic hit that crossed 160 million streams and reached number eight on Spotify's Global Viral Top 50. His 2025 album Chehre, a 14-track confessional ranging from qawwali-laced hooks to lo-fi and acoustic indie pop, was nominated for Best Album at the TIMD Awards.
Recent work
In 2026 he featured on Kulfi Wale, a nostalgic desi hip-hop summer anthem by KhullarG, lending his unmistakable voice to a playful, retro-flavoured track.
