Background
Raised in a middle-class family — her father a bank officer — Seth built her reputation first in the worlds of ghazal and Sufi performance before crossing into mainstream film music, where her distinctive, soulful voice stood apart from typical playback singers.
Award-winning film work
She has twice won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer: in 2010 for her hauntingly Sufi rendition of "Iktara" from Wake Up Sid (2009), a song that became a chart-topping modern classic, and again in 2023 for "Rangisari" from Jugjugg Jeeyo (2022). Both showcase her gift for introspective, emotionally resonant singing.
Recent work
In 2026 she featured on the Cocktail 2 soundtrack, lending her voice to Bandhu 2.0.
