Who is Neeraj Shridhar?
Neeraj Shridhar is an Indian singer, songwriter and composer best known as the lead vocalist of Bombay Vikings, the band that defined the "Hinglish" pop sound of the late 1990s and early 2000s, before he became a sought-after Bollywood playback voice.
Bombay Vikings
Born in Jalandhar, Punjab, Shridhar moved to Stockholm, Sweden at the age of fourteen. There, in 1994, he co-founded Bombay Vikings, a group that fused Indian pop and classical melody with Western production. They became hugely popular with reimagined versions of old Bollywood classics — "Kya Soorat Hai", "Woh Chali", "Chod Do Aanchal" — and original hits like "Jambola" and "Angel Eyes", pioneering a sound that blended Hindi nostalgia with contemporary pop.
Bollywood breakthrough
Shridhar moved into Hindi film playback in the mid-2000s, and his energetic, distinctive voice quickly became a fixture on party and title tracks. His credits include "Ticket To Hollywood", "Heyy Babyy", "Ishq Subhanallah" and, most famously, the title track of Bhool Bhulaiyaa — the breakthrough that made him a go-to voice for upbeat Bollywood numbers.
Recent work
In 2026 he featured on the Cocktail 2 soundtrack with Bandhu 2.0 — a recreation of "Tum Hi Ho Bandhu" from the original Cocktail — a fitting assignment for a singer who built his name reinventing classics.
Legacy
By blending Bollywood heritage with diaspora pop sensibility, Neeraj Shridhar and Bombay Vikings helped open Indian pop to a global, cross-cultural sound that still echoes in today's music.
