Who is Jazzy B?

Jazzy B (born Jaswinder Singh Bains on 1 April 1975 in Nawanshahr, Punjab) is a Punjabi singer, songwriter and actor widely hailed as the "Crown Prince of Bhangra". He immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of five and was raised in Surrey, British Columbia, where he became one of the defining voices of the global Punjabi diaspora.

Career

He began his recording career in 1993 with the album Ghugian Da Jorra and went on to release a string of beloved hits, including "Dil Aah Gey Ya Tere Te", "Londono Patola", "Husna di Sarkar", "Dil Luteya" and the iconic "Naag". His charismatic, larger-than-life image — turbans, gold and swagger — became as recognisable as his voice.

The Crown Prince of Bhangra

The title that defines him was bestowed by Asian-British music pioneer Jatinder Singh Heer. Jazzy B's signature style — traditional Punjabi folk blended with Western hip-hop and urban swagger — resonated deeply with the diaspora and directly influenced a later generation of stars, including AP Dhillon and Chani Nattan.

Recent work

In 2026 he joined the new-school Punjabi wave on Heavyweight, a collaboration with Gurinder Gill produced by MXRCI — a generation-bridging team-up that placed a bhangra legend alongside one of the artists who took the sound global.
