Who is Gurinder Gill?
Gurinder Gill (born Gurinderbir Singh Gill on 14 September 1996 in Gurdaspur, Punjab) is an Indian-born Canadian singer and rapper at the heart of the modern Punjabi music wave. A core member of the Run-Up Records collective alongside AP Dhillon, Shinda Kahlon and Gminxr, he helped define the slick, diaspora-driven sound that took Punjabi music global.
Career
He launched his career in 2019 with the single "Faraar" alongside Shinda Kahlon and AP Dhillon, released on their own Run-Up Records label — a grassroots, self-built operation that would soon reshape Punjabi pop.
"Brown Munde" and breakthrough
In September 2020, Gurinder Gill — together with AP Dhillon, Shinda Kahlon and Gminxr — released "Brown Munde", which became one of the most successful Indian songs ever, topping Punjabi charts worldwide and crossing into mainstream international charts. His tracks such as "Majhail" also charted on the UK Asian and Punjabi charts, and his debut EP Not by Chance arrived in December 2020.
Sound and recent work
Gurinder Gill's style blends melodic Punjabi vocals with hip-hop and R&B production aimed at a global, diaspora audience. In 2026 he released Heavyweight, a swaggering collaboration with bhangra legend Jazzy B, produced by MXRCI, from his album Can't Stop Now.
