Who is LP?
LP — born Laura Pergolizzi on 18 March 1981 in Huntington Station, Long Island, New York — is an American singer-songwriter celebrated for a powerful, gender-bending voice, a distinctive artistic whistle and an ever-present ukulele. Of Italian-American heritage, they adopted the name "LP" after moving to New York City in the mid-2000s, and built one of the most recognisable looks in modern pop: tumbling curls, sunglasses and a cross-shaped earring.
From hit songwriter to star
Before becoming a star in their own right, LP was a sought-after songwriter for major artists, penning material for the likes of Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, the Backstreet Boys, Leona Lewis, Cher Lloyd and Céline Dion — a behind-the-scenes apprenticeship that sharpened a gift for huge, emotional hooks.
Breakthrough: "Lost on You"
LP's international breakthrough came with "Lost on You" (2015–16), which became a massive hit across Europe, Latin America and beyond, and remains their signature song. It introduced a global audience to their dramatic, emotive style and remarkable whistle hook — and made LP a far bigger star outside the United States than within it.
Sound and identity
Across seven albums and several EPs, LP has fused anthemic pop and alt-pop with heartfelt, confessional songwriting and a voice they have said was inherited from their late mother. An openly queer artist who uses they/them pronouns, LP has become a beloved, genre-blurring figure with a devoted worldwide following.
Recent work
In 2026 they released Love Is All I Have, a new single backed by an official music video that leans into their soaring, openhearted style.
