Pa Vijay (Pa. Vijay, born 20 October 1974) is an Indian lyricist, poet, writer, director, producer and actor who works predominantly in Tamil cinema. A native of Kumbakonam who spent his childhood in Coimbatore, he became one of the most prolific and sought-after songwriters of his generation, equally at home with mass anthems and tender poetry.
Career
He made his debut as a film lyricist with Gnanapazham in 1996 and went on to write hundreds of popular Tamil songs across two decades, becoming a fixture of the industry's biggest soundtracks and working with most of its leading composers.
A writer beyond film
Pa Vijay's work extends well past lyric-writing: he is a published poet, an author, and has also acted, produced and directed — a genuine man of letters in Tamil popular culture whose literary sensibility informs his songwriting.
National recognition
He won the National Film Award for Best Lyrics for "Ovvoru Pookalume" from Cheran's acclaimed film Autograph (2004) — a high point in a long and decorated career.
Recent work
In 2026 he penned the lyrics for Karuppa Kooda Va, the lead single from the Tamil film Karuppu, set to Sai Abhyankkar's composition.
