Who is Shreya Ghoshal?
Shreya Ghoshal (born 12 March 1984 in Murshidabad district, West Bengal) is one of the most celebrated playback singers in Indian film history. Over more than two decades she has recorded thousands of songs across Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and other languages, becoming the defining female film voice of her generation.
Breakthrough
Discovered as a teenager after winning the TV singing competition Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, she made a historic film debut with Devdas (2002), whose songs — including "Bairi Piya" — won her a National Film Award at just eighteen. She has gone on to win multiple National Film Awards, among the most of any playback singer of her era.
Signature songs
Her catalogue spans eras and moods: "Barso Re" (Guru), "Teri Ore" (Singh Is Kinng), "Sun Raha Hai" (Aashiqui 2), "Deewani Mastani" (Bajirao Mastani), "Ghar More Pardesiya" (Kalank) and "Tum Kya Mile" (Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani), alongside vast bodies of work in South Indian and Bengali cinema.
Beyond playback
A judge on major singing reality shows and a global touring artist, she remains one of India's most followed and loved musicians. She also lends her voice to independent and non-film projects — as on the 2026 single "KALYANI" with ARJN, KDS, FIFTY4 and RONN, where her classically-rooted voice meets the new Indian R&B wave.
