Who is Tanishk Bagchi?
Tanishk Bagchi (born 23 November 1980 in Kolkata, West Bengal) is an Indian music composer, producer, singer and lyricist who has become one of the most prolific and commercially dominant figures in Hindi film music. Born to musicians Nand Kumar Bagchi and Sharmistha Das, he released the Bengali-language album City Life in 2007 before moving into Bollywood.
Career
He earned his first film credit with "Banno" from Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015) and won major awards for "Baarish" from Half Girlfriend (2017). Since then he has been a fixture on Bollywood soundtracks, both as an original composer and as the industry's go-to recreator of classic hits.
Biggest songs
His catalogue includes originals like "Vaaste", "Bolna" and "Ve Maahi", and blockbuster recreations such as "Dilbar", "Aankh Maarey", "Jehda Nasha" and "Lut Gaye". His "Dilbar" recreation drew 20 million YouTube views in 24 hours, and "Aankh Maarey" became the party anthem of 2018-19 and later crossed a billion views. He is also widely credited with launching the career of singer Dhvani Bhanushali.
A defining (and debated) role
As the most visible name in Bollywood's wave of song recreations, Bagchi has been both hugely successful and the subject of debate about the trend — but few composers can match his sheer hit rate across the past decade.
Recent work
In 2026 he composed Saree for Dhamaal 4, teaming with Marathi-pop star Sanju Rathod.
