Who is Tokischa?
Tokischa (born Tokischa Altagracia Peralta Juárez on 17 March 1996), known mononymously as Tokischa, is a Dominican rapper celebrated — and sometimes controversial — for her fearless, provocative persona and her command of dembow, the raw, percussive sound of the Dominican Republic. She has become one of Latin music's most distinctive and boundary-pushing voices.
Early life
She grew up in the Los Frailes district of Santo Domingo and studied fine arts and dramaturgy as a teenager — an artistic grounding that shows in her bold visual and performance style. After working for the photographer Raymi Paulus, she was drawn into music, signing with Paulus Music and releasing her debut single "Pícala".
Breakout and collaborations
Her profile exploded with "Linda" alongside Spanish superstar Rosalía, and she went on to collaborate with a who's-who of the global Latin and pop scene, including J Balvin, Anuel AA, Ozuna and Madonna. Unafraid of provocation, she has used her platform to challenge norms around gender, sexuality and class in the Dominican Republic and beyond.
A transnational force
By the mid-2020s she commanded well over 13 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with global chart placements, award nominations and major festival appearances cementing her status as a genuine cross-border star.
Recent work
In 2026 she teamed with Major Lazer on Papi, a dancehall-meets-dembow banger built for the festival main stage.
