Who is Shenseea?
Shenseea (born Chinsea Kimberly Lee on 1 October 1996) is a Jamaican singer, songwriter and rapper, and one of the biggest global stars to emerge from dancehall in the modern era. Her sound moves fluidly between hardcore dancehall, pop and R&B, delivered with the charisma that made her "ShenYeng" persona a movement in Jamaica and far beyond.
Rise in dancehall
Raised in Jamaica, she broke through in 2016 with "Loodi" alongside Vybz Kartel, and singles like "ShenYeng Anthem" cemented her as dancehall's leading new voice. Her 2019 single "Blessed" with Tyga pushed her toward international audiences.
Global breakthrough
In 2021 she featured on Kanye West's Donda — appearing on "Ok Ok Pt 2" and "Pure Souls" — which earned her a Grammy nomination when the album was up for Album of the Year. Her 2022 debut album Alpha, featuring the Megan Thee Stallion collaboration "Lick", confirmed her crossover, and 2024's Never Gets Late Here — with the hit "Hit & Run" — kept her at the front of dancehall's global wave.
Style and legacy
Equally at home on a raw riddim or a glossy pop hook, Shenseea has become one of dancehall's most important modern ambassadors, collaborating across genres while keeping Jamaican patois and energy at the centre of her music. Her 2026 single "BRUCKSWEAT" brings her back to high-energy, dancefloor-focused dancehall.
