Who is Jason Derulo?
Jason Derulo (born Jason Joel Desrouleaux on 21 September 1989 in Miramar, Florida) is a Haitian-American singer, songwriter and dancer — one of the most commercially successful pop artists of the 2010s, with more than 250 million singles sold worldwide and a second life as one of the biggest stars on TikTok.
From songwriter to star
Before stepping out front, Derulo made his name as a teenage songwriter, penning material for artists such as Diddy, Lil Wayne, Sean Kingston and Pitbull. Signed to Beluga Heights, he then launched his own career and never looked back.
A run of hits
He topped the US Billboard Hot 100 with his very first single, "Whatcha Say" (2009), and quickly became a Top Ten fixture with "In My Head", "Ridin' Solo", "Talk Dirty" (featuring 2 Chainz), "Wiggle" (featuring Snoop Dogg) and "Want to Want Me". In 2020, "Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)" with Jawsh 685 topped charts worldwide and reached number one in the US after a remix with BTS.
Style and reinvention
Known for his slick fusion of pop, R&B and dance, his athletic dancing and his ear for an inescapable hook, Derulo reinvented himself in the 2020s as a TikTok phenomenon with one of the largest followings of any musician on the platform — turning viral moments back into chart hits.
Recent work
In 2026 he featured on Mi Chico, an afro-house single with Romanian producer DJ Goja and Brazilian star Melody.
