The earlier reading had this backwards. "Aayi na jag se laaj" does not mean shyness — it means the opposite: "I feel no shame before the world." Shilpa Rao sings it as a bold declaration of a woman doing exactly what her heart wants and refusing to answer to anyone's rules or customs.

The defiance is the whole mood. "Karni thi mann ki, kar li hai aaj" — I did what I wished, today — and she shrugs at "kaise niyam, kaise riwaj" (what rules, what customs?). She urges dancing with full force, crushing the glass of broken hearts underfoot, and not watching the clock even if it is five in the morning.
