Who is Gurlez Akhtar?
Gurlez Akhtar (born 3 March 1987 in Ludhiana) is a prolific Punjabi playback singer, composer and performer, affectionately known across the industry as the "Duet Queen" for her countless collaborations and her role in reviving the duet trend in Punjabi music.
Background
Born into a musical family, she began singing in childhood and turned to music seriously after the death of her father, who was himself a musician. She started her career young as a duet singer, building a reputation as the go-to female voice for Punjabi collaborations.
Career
She rose to prominence on Sukhwinder Sukhi's 2006 album Sharif Munda and went on to lend her voice to Punjabi films including Hashar, Jawani Zindabaad and Jihne Mera Dil Luteya. Her 2019 single "Jattwad" with Harf Cheema was a major hit, charting in the Indian Top 40 for an extraordinary 154 weeks. Few singers appear on as many Punjabi hits as she does.
Recent work
In 2026 she teamed with rapper-producer Deep Kalsi on Group, bringing her classic Punjabi voice to a contemporary production.
